How We Research & Update Our Guides
Off Trek Asia mixes lived experience with practical research. When a guide depends on rules, eligibility, money, public services, or other facts that can change, we try to separate durable advice from information that needs to be checked again.
Primary Sources First
For topics such as visas, residence status, healthcare, banking, housing rules, taxes, and economic conditions, we prefer official or primary sources whenever they are available. That can include Korean government agencies, public institutions, regulators, tax authorities, central banks, and other first-party sources responsible for the rule, program, or data being discussed.
Experience Is Not the Same as a Rule
Some Off Trek Asia articles are grounded in long-term experience of living in Korea and across Asia. Those observations can help explain how a system feels in practice, but personal experience does not replace current official requirements. Where a rule, fee, eligibility condition, or procedure matters, readers should confirm the current requirement with the responsible authority before making a costly or time-sensitive decision.
How We Handle Changing Information
Time-sensitive guides are reviewed periodically, with higher-change topics checked more often. These include immigration and visa guidance, residence documents, healthcare access, insurance, banking, housing and deposits, taxes, cost-of-living estimates, economic outlooks, and other pages where rules or numbers may change.
When the underlying facts change materially, we update the relevant section rather than rewriting an article simply to make it look new. Evergreen observations, personal context, and explanatory sections may remain unchanged when they are still accurate.
What “Reviewed” and “Updated” Mean
- Reviewed means the material facts were checked and no substantive change was required.
- Updated means one or more material facts, recommendations, sources, or explanations were changed.

If you find a factual error, an outdated official link, or a material change that affects one of our guides, please contact Off Trek Asia. Include the page and, when possible, the official source that supports the correction.
Our aim is practical usefulness rather than false certainty: explain what we know, show where the information comes from, and make it clear when a reader should verify a current rule for their own situation.
